Mt. Morrison Hike - August 2005

(photo Ryan [I think])

Mt. Morrison is the tallest mountain seen from the Hot Creek parking area. We approached it from a hanging valley right (northwest) of the peak, and returned via a broad valley left (south) of the peak. Mono Jim is a lower peak in front of Mt. Morrison.

On a ridge between the "right" and "left" valleys.

Scrambling over rocks to the top. This is a class-2 approach if you find the right direction. If you make a turn too early or too late, you end up in a class-3 territory. (That's what happend to us on the way back).

Phew!

Lake Genevieve, Edith Lake, and Cloverleaf Lake (center of the picture), Bloody Mountain (upper right), north end of Lake Dorothy (left), Convict Creek canyon (lower part of the picture).

Mirna and her hat at the top of Mt. Morrison, elevation 12,303 ft (3750 m). Saddly, the summit log had been stolen that summer.

On our way back we found this amazing snow bridge.

Snow bridge (or tunnel).

Quite refreshing on a hot August day!

How much longer is it going to last?
