James Mason Hutchings: Climbing in the Ritter Range, 1875:

In September 1875, James Hutchings, of Yosemite fame, tried to climb Mount Ritter from the North Fork of the San Joaquin River. Instead, he ended up at a much more difficult "South Peak" (Peak 3734), but was never credited with that first ascent. Transcribed from Hutchings' unpublished diary.
