PRESS RELEASE:
BMJ's dot com scoops excellence award for online publishing
Thursday 30 November 2000
bmj.com was hailed Best Business Product or Service by the publishing
industry at the Interactive Publishing Awards ceremony, hosted by the Periodical
Publishers Association (PPA) in London last night. The awards aim to reward
excellence in the online publishing sector and to showcase the best websites in
the industry.
Beating off stiff competition - including the Financial Times website FT.com -
the judging panel said: "bmj.com stood out because of this capacity to "go
beyond brand extension" and reinvent itself. In this case, a very traditional
print product has been transformed by new technology without losing the
authority and trust it has established."
They added: "bmj.com unites its specific business audience on an international
scale. It is a powerful resource which provides context to the issues affecting
the medical community."
Receiving the award, Alan Walker, Commercial Development Manager for bmj.com
said: "bmj.com has evolved into its own brand, providing a dynamic health
reference source. We are delighted that our hard work has been recognised, and
intend to save doctors" time while continuing to set the standards by which all
medical websites are judged."
